Why are there earthquakes?

In light of the recent disaster of the earthquake in Nepal, devastating cities and destroying vast areas, killing thousands of people and wrecking tamples and reducing ancient World Heritage sites to dust. There's been tons of casualties and there are people still being rescued. It's been the largest earthquake recorded there and the first earthquake within that zone for almost a century. Unfortunately, disasters happen and will always likely to happen again. There are always going to be natural disasters and man-made disasters. There will always be such powerful earthquakes, storms, floods and volcanoes. But everyone keeps asking why. The most common question people ask is why should this happen? They seek answers from "God" and they wonder why there is so much suffering in the world. Pagans also ask the Goddess/gods/spirits why there is so much tragedy and so much anger in the world. Maybe I can find out.

I will use a special technique that some people refer to as "channelling". I will pose a few obvious questions and then get some feedback from a divine answer. Please don't be offended by this. My questions are the following:

1. Why is there so much disasters?
2. How can there be so much pain, death and suffering?
3. Humans were blessed with intelligence and yet punished this way, why?
4. What can be done to stop this?

I ask the gods if they can share some insight. I understand not everyone will believe in gods, spirits or ghosts and will not take this too seriously and won't be interested. This is really no problem and I don't mind if people will laugh and scoff. Here are the replies from the gods:

1. "The world that you live upon is by nature full of life. It is constantly moving. It breathes. It reflexes. When lands shift, it makes a shock wave effect and can cause a massive earthquake, and it is not avoidable. The earth's history is full of earthquakes. The earth's beginning was far more hostile than it is now."

2. "You ask how can there be so much pain and death. There has always been pain and death. It is not deliberate. Pain is a reaction from a severe cut. There is pain and there is joy. Pain comes in many forms. Death is not about a purposeful end as it is a change of existence. Suffering itself is part of living on a world that is very physically active."

3. "Humans were not so much "blessed" but are gifted with the ability to learn, create and invent. There are other intelligent species. Humans are simply a product of time and journey of the earth's history made to endure life and produce something highly advanced and give protection to the ageing earth's vulnerabilities."

4. "The problem with stopping disasters and earthquakes is that the world would have to stop moving and then the world will become uninhabitable, barren and open for cosmic attacks from showers and radiation storms. To understand the world, understand the planet itself as if it were a living human. Also humans lost the ability to predict earthquakes when humans were able to farm."

Thank you.

Volcano fire giant

This week on 22/04/2015 the Calbuco Volcano erupted in South Chile. It was the first time that this volcano erupted in about 44 years. Thousands of people living nearby had to be evacuated as a plume of ash cloud rose up like an enormous red tower. Lava flowed everywhere and entered lakes. The volcanic eruption was almost unexpected and very sudden. Towns close to the volcano are covered in ash.  It's not even the only volcano in Chile.

Some believe that the volcano is a sign from the gods. There are, despite rumours, a lot of mytical happenings with volcanoes. They generate myths, legends and even be magnetic sightings of the unknown, supernatural and weird.

Many films and photographs of the recent Calbuco eruption show all kinds of strange iffy images. One particular story focuses on a bright flashing UFO seen near the volcanic ash plume. (For that report visit this link).

Also a local woman captured an extraordinary picture of a giant human figure standing in the volcanic cloud. Have a look at the photo here.

Valcanoes are a power of the gods, and a force of Mother Nature that makes humans feel so small. It goes to show people are no different to the rest of the animals when it comes to the true glory and movement of the Earth.

There is a really dark history about the volcanoes in Chile. In ancient times, there were child sacrifices to volcanoes. The Inca empire consisted of places including what is now Chile. Inca tradition once believed that sacrificing children to the volcanoes would please the gods and help provide more food and riches. It was part of a sinister ritual knowned as Capacocha.

Sisters of the Valkyrie? (Part VI) Harpies

There are Valkyrie-like goddesses and demi goddesses in other belief systems, who resemble the characteristics of the Northern Valkyries. It makes you wonder if they belong to the same species or come from the same root legend. I plan to make several entries about the subject, starting with individuals and then perhaps go onto research different aspects of the Valkyrie.

The sixth entry on the series "Sisters of the Valkyrie" is about the Harpies. From ancient Greek myths and legends, the harpies have been considered demons. They look like winged creatures with heads of women. But earlier pre-classical Greece, the harpies were considered beautiful and quite benign, if not a little possessive and materialistic. Harpies themselves are depicted in art as odd looking monsters. Many feature films based on the Greek legends portray the Harpies as very nasty and always grotesque. However, the Greek philospher Hesiod wrote that the Harpies are "lovely sisters of goddess Iris". Dig deeper, look further back into the past, and myths alter through time.

It were the Romans who defined the harpies as ugly, evil and sinister, and this changed the way people read and interprated mythical creatures. Okay now the word "Harpy" comes from Greek to mean "snatcher" of souls and people. Originally the harpies were beautiful winged women, demi goddesses of storms, who helped to guide warriors of the dead across to the glorious afterlife. As stories were told, told and retold, harpies later became feared and dreaded. They were thought of as cruel monsters who kidnapped people, destroyed lives and ruined crops. They were said to snatch away food from the blind, and this is told in the tale about Phineus, who revealed hidden mysteries of the gods. In his punishment, he was made blind and then he was tormented by the harpies until he was rescued by Jason and the Argonauts.

The harpies were sisters. They were the daughters of divine Thaumas and Electra. Their sister was Iris the glowing winged goddess of rainbows. The harpies were all once regarded as fair haired, light as feathers, friends of the birds, riding winds, beautiful and bright, dressed in feathers and helping spirits. Different poets, philosophers and writers changed the harpies according to their tales. Some described the harpies as beautiful women with wings. Others described harpies as birds with heads of women. Some described them as just ugly and winged. The more hideous the harpies were the more cruel and vicious they were.
